"He's in for a run of their lives"

One of our best friends Jake ran in the Chicago Marathon over the weekend. Back in July Jake's parents were training for the Chicago Marathon. Before the race they had an article in the local paper about them.
Jake's dad woke up not feeling like his usual self but decided to run with Jake's mom anyways. By the time they started heading back towards their house from their run Jake's dad, Brian, collapsed. Deb, Jake's mom, pushed Brian into the ditch away from the road and ran to their house which was about a mile away to wake up Jake and get help.

They drove their pickup truck back to Brian and tried cooling him off by using towels, cold washcloths, and even frozen vegetables. He just kept sweating and sweating. Jake called 911 and then ambulance came to pick Brian up and took him to the hospital. He ended up having to staying in the hospital for several days to get lots of fluids in him.
They found out he was severely dehydrated and they told him to take it easy on the running. So because Brian was out for the race, Jake decided to take his place.

Ever since July Jake has been running every morning with his Mom to train for this Marathon. Stefan & I wanted to go and support Deb & Jake and I wanted to go and take pictures of them, but we couldn't make it! We had too much stuff going on. Jake kept us updated and even sent pictures! (:

On Sunday Oct 10, 2010 (10/10/10) Deb and Jake ran in the Chicago Marathon which is about 26 miles. Jake told us it was an unreal experience and he loved it. He finished a little over 4 hours.
Congratulations Jake & Deb!  Sorry we couldn't make it! We are so proud of you guys for all your hard work! (:
